Accessibility guide

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. At Waterfoot Park we want to provide an enjoyable experience to everyone and are committed to providing as much information about our current facilities and future plans as we can.

We display information in two formats. Scroll below to see our facilities grouped into categories.

Filter

Level Access

  • A low level counter is provided in the Reception/Shop
  • Accessible toilets are in the shower block at the touring field (available 24 hours a day), and also in the Mansion during Mansion House opening hours.
  • There is level access to:
    • Reception/Shop
    • Mansion
    • Accessible Toilets
    • Laundry facilities

Hearing

  • We have a hearing loop in the Reception/Shop.
  • Some staff have disability awareness training.
  • TVs have subtitles.

Visual

  • Clear signage is used throughout the park with pictograms where appropriate.
  • Walls and doors to main areas have high colour contrast.
  • The park is dimly lit at night due to our dark sky policy. Torches are available to buy at the shop however we recommend bringing your own.

Dementia

  • Clear signage is used throughout the park with pictograms where appropriate.
  • Familiarisation visits are available on request.

Autism

  • We offer contactless check-in so you can head straight to your accommodation with no queues or waiting around.
  • We have a sensory story available here (works best on mobile).
  • Familiarisation visits are available on request.
  • There is no background music in Reception, however during bar opening times music is played in the Mansion.

General

  • Some staff have disability awareness training.
  • Staff are available 24 hours a day.
  • There is disabled parking outside of the Reception/Shop.
  • Dogs are welcome in all areas except the Toilet/Shower block.
  • Getting Here

    Travel by Public Transport

    • The number 508 bus connects Penrith, Pooley Bridge (our stop) and Glenridding. Please note the bus stop is approximately a 15 minute walk away from the park entrance.
    • First Trans Pennine Express and/or Avanti West Coast, run direct train services to Penrith station from London Euston, Birmingham, Manchester and Manchester Airport, Preston, Lancaster, Oxenholme, Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Other services run trains from Newcastle to Penrith via Carlisle.

    Travel by Taxi

    Parking

    • Disabled parking is available outside reception with level access to reception. There is a permanent ramp.
    • Although there is no parking next to our accommodation units, there is ample room for unloading and manoeuvring nearby.
    • Please Note: We are NOT Sat Nav compatible. Many GPS systems will take you down a dead-end narrow track unsuitable for caravans.  Please see the “How to find us” section of the website.
  • Getting Around Outside

    Mansion Lawn Area

    • The lawn area is located around the back of the Mansion with a slight downhill slope.

    Mansion Terrace

    • The Mansion Terrace is located behind the Mansion with level access.
    • There are picnic benches set up outside on the gravelled terrace area overlooking the Mansion Lawn area.
    • Drinks are commonly ordered at the bar, however table service can be made at special request.

    Glamping Pod/Hive Area

    • The Glamping Pod/Hive Area is accessed via a short wide gravel path
  • Getting Around Inside

    Reception

    • The Reception has a permanent ramp with level access and wide door.
    • There is ample room inside for manoeuvre
    • There is a lowered desk

    Mansion

    • The main entrance to the mansion is up 3 steps of varying height.
    • There is an accessible entrance around the left side with a permanent ramp and level access.
    • There is an Accessible Toilet in the Mansion with grab rails, low level hook, shelf and sink, and baby changing facility.

    • We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs

    Customer Care Support

    • All staff have disability awareness training.
    • We have information available in large print.
    • Staff are available 24 hours a day.
    • Guest information files in cabins give details of local services and emergency procedures.
    • Mobile phone reception is variable depending on your network. A freephone is provided for emergency use outside reception.
    • Familiarisation visits are available if requested subject to staff availability
